My Christmas Traditions
December is here and Christmas is well and truly on it’s way. It’s time to bring out all the old traditions and put them into full festive swing!
The Advent Calendar
Opening the little windows each day during the countdown until the big day arrives has been something I’ve done ever since I can remember.
However, these days the advent calendars have various chocolates behind the window whereas I remember the days when there were little Christmas picture scenes behind the window and no chocolate. I quite miss that. After all, I can have chocolate anytime.
It’s actually almost impossible to buy the “old school” advent calendars which is a bit of a shame. On the flip side though you also get this type of advent calendars these days…
Putting up the Christmas tree has always been a major tradition. More recently this has come with a new tradition. I drink wine, listen to Kylie’s Christmas album and ‘throw’ up the Christmas tree.
The more tinsel and tackier the better as far as I’m concerned. If I could get away with putting up decorations on the ceiling like we did in the 80s then I’d have shiny garlands and stars all over the place. I’m in charge of the Christmas tree in the kitchen. Nothing is safe from being covered in lights, tinsel or filled up with baubles ‘n’ shit…
…and Greg is in charge of the one in the living room. As you can see he doesn’t do tacky and it’s all symmetrical and ribbons and blah blah blah…
The Christmas Sweater
This is a more recent tradition and has really taken off in the last few years. There’s a national ‘wear your Christmas sweater‘ to work day, all the major High Street stores go into overdrive to make sure everyone has one and you have to wear one on Christmas Day.
That’s great as far as I’m concerned – means you don’t have to think what to wear and, of course sweaters are big and baggy so they hide my growing waistline.
Last year my Christmas sweater had flashing lights but they don’t seem to have lasted the year so I had to buy a new one. I know that “Santa” has got me one already for Christmas Day but it’s nice to have a selection isn’t it.
As soon as I saw this one I knew it had my name written all over it….
I got it from the website Ugly Christmas Sweaters and I really recommend them.
Also (and here comes the ‘salesy’ part) the site is currently accepting discount codes FROSTY5, TURKEY10 and WIN25 based on your order amount. More details are at the top of their site.
If you get one, let me know which one or if you’ve already got yours, share it with me. Oh and don’t forget to tell me about your Christmas traditions too!
