I love StumbleUpon and I come across lots of interesting articles by using it which I probably would never have found by myself.
I just read this article called “40 Simple Bedroom Design Ideas To Transform Your Bedroom” from the Infographic Journal site.
I think they are all pretty great ideas but I have to say that I disagree with number 34…
Here’s why and this is how I think I have found the cure for insomnia…
I used to struggle every night to drop off to sleep. I would find my brain would be working overtime when all I wanted it to do was shutdown. I would replay my day, think about tomorrow and on some occasions make up scenarios in my mind that I would want to happen in real life. It would take me hours to eventually get to sleep.
Staying up late didn’t help either as I would start to focus on what little amount of sleep I would actually get. Then, and this is the worst thing, I would forget how to fall asleep and that would just add to the pressure of trying to get to sleep.
I had no problem falling asleep in front of the tv on the sofa but when I went to bed I was wide awake again. The whole process was becoming a nightmare before I even started to dream!
The solution to this night-time dilemma happened more by accident than any ingenious plan by me and it was quite a simple one so I had no excuse for not thinking of it earlier.
Install a television in the bedroom! Get a Chromecast – Eureka!
Now I re-watch old tv shows and movies when I go to bed. If I fall asleep during them then that’s fine because I’ve seen it before. It’s comforting to watch familiar characters, my brain isn’t concentrating on other things and sometimes I don’t even look at the tv – I just listen.
When I was a kid I would fall asleep while being read fairy tales such as Hansel & Gretel, Jack & The Beanstalk and Gulliver’s Travels. I am now doing the adult equivalent and I fall asleep to old episodes of Cheers, Malcolm In The Middle and Fawlty Towers. Thank you Netflix for now tucking me in and reading my modern bedtime stories.
What’s the solution to insomnia? For me – it’s called install-a-telly! What about you – are you a good sleep? Share your snoozy stories with me in the comments or tweet me @stevesays2014
